When it was written its constructors had no way of knowing that technology would create far more powerful and destructive guns. They used muskets during the revolution and every gun owner knows that a musket is barely as deadly as a bow and arrow. This trend continues today and our lawmakers have a duty to enact legislation to prevent these weapons from being bought on internet or at vendors. The hypothesis that we need to own weapons for protection is countered by insurance rates, which go up if a family owns a gun.
